As Head of Acquisitions at Protagonist Pictures, Isabelle Stewart oversees the procurement of prestige titles that have become synonymous with the Protagonist brand. Stewart is responsible for sourcing projects for international finance, production and sales that align with the company’s track record of focusing on filmmakers with exceptional vision and storytelling skills. Some of Protagonist’s titles includes Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cold War, which won Paweł Cannes Best Director Award 2018, Sean Baker’s highly nominated The Florida Project, Lady Macbeth, and God’s Own Country, which each received 2018 BAFTA nominations, as well as festival darlings Beast and Chloé Zhao’s critically acclaimed The Rider. Previously, Isabelle was Director, Worldwide Acquisitions and Production at Focus Features, where she worked on titles including Asghar Farhadi’s 2018 Cannes Film Festival opening film Everybody Knows, Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, Andrew Haigh’s Lean on Pete and Paolo Sorrentino’s Loro. Prior to Focus Features, Isabelle oversaw local language productions and acquisitions in the UK, Spain, Italy, Australia and France for Universal Pictures International Productions. Isabelle was born in London, is half French and holds a BA in Spanish and Italian from the University of Bristol. She began her career in film at Universal Pictures International and StudioCanal.
