Nathalie Wappler read history, politics and German language sciences at the University of Constance. Studies abroad took her to the University of Bristol in Great Britain and to California's Stanford University. Nathalie Wappler began her professional career as an Editor at the German TV channel 3sat («Kulturzeit»), before moving to ARD/WDR («Joachim Gauck») and then ZDF («aspekte», «Maybrit Illner»). She joined Schweizer Fernsehen in 2005 as the Editor of «Kulturplatz», and went on in 2008 to become the Executive Editor of «Sternstunden» before becoming the channel's Head of Culture in 2011. In the latter role, Wappler merged the TV, radio and online editorial departments, modernised Radio SRF 2 Kultur, and developed new strategies for film and TV series. Nathalie Wappler changed channel again in 2016 to become the Programme Director at MDR, where she was responsible in the culture, youth, education and science sectors for their TV, radio and online programmes and the orchestras. She has been the director of Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen since 2019.
